One of three images by Tina Scahill have been made in response to the poem Lemon Squeezer by Matt L.T. Smith from the book, The Lost Art of Staring into Fires. An Anthology of poetry.
The pieces are a combination of mixed media on canvas: acrylic paint, original 1939 newspaper, collage and dust. The size is: 61cm x 46cm
The poem brought forward memories of her own loss and need for family. Childhood expectations of play with simplicity of the spaceship lemon squeezer, made her identify with the childhood of the 70's. Tina's memory of her grandparents' house was like a 'museum' she would get lost gazing at the items on the dusty shelves that they had collected over the years. The rooms were like a private antique shop; the smell of pipe smoke, horse leather, log fires and the ticking of the grandfather clock.
